Solutions Exist Before Problems

In life, we often view problems as obstacles, when in fact they are simply part of how the world works. Often, a problem is only perceived by the person experiencing it—others may not see it as a problem at all. Most of the time, we can’t avoid problems coming our way. But as humans—with the ability to think and overcome challenges—we must continuously sharpen this skill.

By understanding how the world works, problem-solving becomes less about difficulty and more about intention. Once we have the necessary understanding and skill, solving a problem becomes a choice: do you want to solve it or not? This note, however, focuses more on finding solutions.

About few years ago, during a period of reflection, I realized something profound:

solutions actually exist before problems.

The solutions already exist. They are there, waiting to be found and seen clearly. Let’s say you want to go from point A to point B. The simplest solution is a straight line. But there are countless other paths—curved, indirect, winding. Now, if there’s an obstacle between A and B that prevents a straight path, that obstacle is what we call a “problem.” To reach B, we must solve it—or find a new way around it.

An Illustration

Imagine you’re holding a string with a pendulum. Your finger is point A, and the pendulum is point B. The string forms a straight line—this is the “invisible solution.” If you push the string, blocking the simplest path, the string bends or curves, yet it still reaches B. The solution remains—the path just changes. Even before and after you introduced the obstacle, the solution was already there. That’s why solutions come before problems.

The Infinite Solutions

The string is just a simple illustration. Now imagine replacing it with air—the invisible medium that connects A and B. Suddenly, the solutions become infinite.

In real life, if you can’t see a solution to your problem, perhaps what you need is clarity. Clear vision helps reveal your purpose, and your purpose is the very first step in solving any problem. Remember the air—it symbolizes the infinite possibilities. Once you find your purpose, you’re left with only one thing: intention.

How strong is your intention? The right intention will help you see the path, and the solution will reveal itself.
