The Atomic Habits

I just read the back cover of this book but forgot what it was. And I think it’s interesting and worth knowing for people like me who is trying to achieve some goals. This is my own take on it based on some thoughts and combining some advice from several sources. Do comment below if you have something in mind or if you have read the book.

Everybody who has goals, especially big ones (which are not easy to achieve), is likely to envision the feelings when he achieves them. Everybody can think of any goal, but not many want to work hard to achieve it, maybe they don’t know how to achieve it, or don’t want to do the things that need to be done.

In order to achieve goals, one must know what are the steps to achieve it, and how to do each step clearly. One should also be aware if current habits are in line with the goals. Thus, there are two things about habits that one must do to achieve the goal effectively:

  1. Create new habits that support and align with goals. It may not be easy, but it is urgent.
  2. Remove unnecessary habits. To do this, one has to become aware of what habits are getting in the way.

Time is the most precious thing to get everything we want in life. Depending on what the goals are, if watching Netflix causing you to lose time working on your goals, you should stop or at least reduce it. If scrolling on Instagram can be time-consuming, consider converting your screen time on Instagram into some productive works.

Make efforts to work on your goals, it takes your focus, time, energy and perhaps money. Make sure you enjoy the process and put happiness in it. If the process doesn’t make you happy, something must be wrong, analyze on what isn’t working, and fix it immediately.

The chains of habit are too weak to be felt
Until they are too strong to be broken.

While goals are not easy to achieve, don’t push yourself too hard, rest if you must. Read my previous post about The Impossible Dream for some motivation. You are reading this for a reason, make it happen. Good luck.
